Early Morning Runner Assaulted In North Chattanooga

Police said an early morning runner was assaulted on Monday in North Chattanooga.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., the Chattanooga Police Department responded to an assault call on W. Mississippi Avenue.

The victim was assaulted while running early morning on Mississippi Avenue.

The suspect was described as a black male, 5’8’’– 5’9’’ inches tall, short afro/flat top style hair, wearing white or khaki shorts and a dark colored button-up style shirt weighing approximately 180–200 pounds.

 If anyone has information regarding this suspect please call (423) 698-2525.  If anyone sees any suspicious behavior or any possible suspect that may be related to this incident please call 911 immediately.

 The CPD suggests the following safety precautions for running early mornings and late night.

  1. Run with a partner or a dog in well-lit areas.
  2. Avoid unpopulated areas.
  3. Trust your intuition about a person or an area. 
  4. Alter or vary your running route pattern.
  5. If you do use headphones, run with the volume low and just one earbud in.
  6. Have a cellular phone with you at all times.

Call police immediately (423) 698-2525 if something happens to you or someone else, or you notice anyone out of the ordinary.

It is important to report incidents immediately.

Officers will be in the area in search of any suspicious activity or individuals fitting the suspect description. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
