Civil War History Cruise “Sharpshooters”

Join Tennessee Aquarium Naturalist John Dever aboard the River Gorge Explorer for a special Civil War cruise.

You’ll learn the intriguing history related to the actions of Confederate sharpshooters in the Tennessee River Gorge during the siege of Chattanooga in October of 1863. Viewing significant historic points of interest from the water offers a unique perspective of this segment of our nation’s past. Cash bar with wine, beer, soft drinks and snacks will be available. Animal Athletes at the Tennessee Aquarium

Did you know that many animals are the Ultra-Athletes of the natural world? Here’s your chance to find out how you measure up against some amazing animal feats! Children can compete in activities to match their “iron strengths” against the athletic abilities of Aquarium creatures like River Otters, Penguins or Lake Sturgeon. Fun and engaging programs will enhance your family’s Aquarium experience while helping you appreciate some truly phenomenal skills. No registration necessary. First come first serve basis. Sign up for these events in the lobby of River Journey on the day of the event.

ODDtober at the Tennessee Aquarium

Did you know that Hellbender Salamanders breathe through their skin? Or, that butterflies can taste with their feet and some fish build nests out of bubbles? Tennessee Aquarium guests will discover fun facts about the weird and wonderful side of nature throughout “ODDtober.” The quirky behaviors and bizarre adaptations that make animals unique will also be revealed during special ODDtober keeper talks and dive programs. Take a walk on the wild side by adding a Backstage Pass Tour to get even closer to toothy sharks or the freshwater megafish in the River Giants exhibit.

 

Natural Treasures: Conservation Cruise

Join Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Initiative (TNACI) scientists Dr. Josh Ennen and Dr. Bernie Kuhadja for an insightful look into the mysteries and environmental dynamics of the Tennessee River system - past and present. You'll enjoy their overview of TNACI's role in hands-on conservation and the future of freshwater conservation across our region. Learn how TNACI works to preserve, protect and sustain the region's natural treasures and brings people of all ages closer to nature. Coupons and other discounts are not valid for this cruise. All ages are welcome aboard, but the cruise is limited to 68 participants.

AquaScarium VII: Family Halloween Party

6:00 – 9:00 PM

Come in costume with your favorite treat bag and celebrate a safe and spirited Halloween at the Tennessee Aquarium! Enjoy the “wild” antics of our costumed divers and participate in a costume contest. Dance with Aquarium mascots at the Monster Mash Dance Party, then take a break to savor a snack on the Aquarium Plaza. Trick-or-Treat for loads of loot in our haunted galleries and win a treasure when you complete the hidden word puzzle.

Awesome Autumn fall color cruises aboard the River Gorge Explorer Oct 17 – Nov 9

Autumn is a great time to get out and experience the beauty of “Tennessee’s Grand Canyon” aboard the River Gorge Explorer. An experienced Tennessee Aquarium naturalist leads each two-hour excursion, pointing out wildlife and historic points of interest along the way. Guests are invited to enjoy the scenery and fall color from the topside observation deck while cruising through the Gorge. Go to www.tnaqua.org to purchase tickets online.

 

See it all! – River GORGEous Fall Color Cruise (I) & (II) 10 am and 1pm on Sunday, Nov. 2nd, 2014

Enjoy a 3.5-hour fall foliage cruise through the entire 34 mile Tennessee River Gorge during peak color. The first cruise departs from the Chattanooga Pier at 10 am. Passengers for the second cruise will board a bus at 1pm and travel to Hale’s bar Marina to board the River Gorge Explorer. Disembarking passengers board the bus for the return trip to Chattanooga. Lunch, music and bus transportation provided. Cash bar with wine, beer and snacks will be available for purchase.
