Dalton State To Host Screening Of Documentary Waiting For Superman

  • Tuesday, September 30, 2014

Dalton State College will host a discussion about no child left behind and other topics regarding public education after a screening of Waiting for Superman, a 2010 documentary, on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m. The screening is free and open to the public and will be held in Goodroe Auditorium of Gignilliat Memorial Hall.

Waiting for Superman is a film directed by Davis Guggenheim that follows a handful of children through the public school system. Mr. Guggenheim dissects myths about public education, its fallbacks, drop-out statistics, and lax regulations.

The screening and subsequent discussion on inequality in education is the third installment of a yearlong series on American inequality led by Assistant Professor of Political Science Matthew Hipps.

During the semester, Mr. Hipps has been facilitating multiple discussions on topics that affect Americans daily, such as inconsistency in economic policies and the quandary of educational inequality.
