During a Tuesday afternoon meeting, the Chattanooga City Council decided to create a three-person committee in order to research ways of appointing people to various boards.

Council members Chris Anderson, Carol Berz and Yusuf Hakeem were selected to be on the committee.

Chairman Chip Henderson suggested forming the committee after Councilman Hakeem said he would not be comfortable with one city council member alone being placed in charge of deciding the applicant pool.

The industrial Development Board was the primary focus.

One suggestion was to create an online application, where anyone could go online and apply.

Councilman Hakeem also expressed concern about members of a board being from the same area, leaving other areas under-represented.

During the meeting, Councilwoman Berz also suggested looking at the beer board rules and guidelines.

She said, "If you sit in on the beer board meetings, they have a lot of challenges...They need some firm guidelines on decisions made."
