Host Trevecca Nazarene slipped past the visiting Lee volleyball team 30-28 in the first set and then overpowered the visitors in the last two sets, 25-14, 25-21 in claiming a 3-0 victory on Tuesday evening.
It marked the first time ever that the Lady Trojans were able to defeat a Lee volleyball team. The long series between the two rivals now stands at 15-1 in Lee's favor.
Playing with two mainstays out with injuries, the Lady Flames were able to get eight kills by Patti Orozco and Latrice Johnson.
Erin Hill and Blaire Beamer had five kills apiece but Lee only registered a .110 hitting percentage. Hill paced the Lady Flames in assists with 10, while Sarah Davis had 10 digs and Johnson posted nine. Beamer had five blocks in the loss. Catherine Conley tallied four and Orozco picked up three blocks.
Trevecca countered with 10 kills by Stephanie Bouchard and Delaney Hearne totaled eight. She also had a .467 hitting percentage. As a team, the Lady Trojans finished with a .216 hitting mark. Loren Bennett dished off 35 key assists. Katelyn Atkinson had a pair of service aces, while Kayleign Jarrett picked up 17 digs for the winners.
The Lady Flames will open their Gulf South Conference and home season on Friday at 5 p.m., hosting Valdosta State. Lee will turn right around on Saturday and test West Florida, ranked 18th in one NCAA Division II poll at 3 p.m.in Walker Arena.
