Haley Soles scored 19 points to lead all scorers and the Covenant women's basketball team hung with a tough Greensboro squad before falling 66-53 in USA South action inside Hanes Gymnasium in Greensboro.
Soles finished the game 7-of-16 from the floor with five 3-pointers to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Covenant (0-12, 0-4 USA South) also received 10 points and seven rebounds from Aleigha Williams.
Greensboro (7-2, 2-1 USA South) got 18 points and eight assists from Shanita Hampton while 6-foot-4 center Tiffani Stephens totaled 14 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks in 16 minutes of action.
Covenant took a 12-11 lead after a Williams layup with 12:37 left in the first half.
Greensboro ended the half with a 35-22 lead after a Stephens offensive rebound and putback with under 30 seconds remaining in the period.
The host Pride stretched the lead to 19 in the second half before the Scots cut the lead to 59-46 after a pair of Abbey Bailey free throws with 4:25 remaining. That would be as close as Covenant would get the rest of the way.
Covenant forced Greensboro into 25 turnovers, while committing 18 themselves, and scored 19 points off those giveaways. Greensboro connected on 37 percent (27-of-73) from the field and had a 62-40 rebound edge. Covenant dished out 10 assists on its 17 made field goals.
The Scots will continue their road trip on Tuesday at USA South rival Maryville. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
