Due to the freezing temperatures and potential for black ice creating hazardous road conditions, Hamilton County Schools will be closed Friday.
That came after it was first announced there would be a two-hour delay.
Officials said early Friday morning, "Due to the icing on the school parking lots and roadways, Hamilton County Schools will be closed Friday, January 16th. Child Care will also be closed. Twelve month employees will report one hour late."
Chattanooga State was opening at 9 a.m.
Several area school systems are closing on Friday after a light snowfall on Thursday and freezing conditions.
They include Bradley, Polk and Cleveland schools.
Walker, Whitfield, Dade. Chattooga and, Chickamauga City Schools and Marion, Rhea, Sequatchie, Richard Hardy and Bledsoe Schools are on two-hour delays.
