Dr. Nicky Ozbek, UTC professor of Psychology, was elected to the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Council of Representatives. According to the APA website, the Council of Representatives is the organization’s legislative body, speaking for the association’s 137,000 members and affiliates “on matters advancing psychology as a science, as a profession, and as a means of promoting health, education, and human welfare.”

“Dr. Ozbek is an outstanding colleague and accomplished researcher. Her role with APA will only continue to bring visibility to our department and campus,” Dr. Brian O’Leary, associate professor and Head of the Department of Psychology, said.

Dr. Ozbek is a longtime faculty member of the UTC Department of Psychology. After completing her post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Dr. Ozbek joined the UTC faculty in 1977.

“In addition to teaching classes, Dr. Ozbek regularly mentors students, giving them opportunities to complete research outside the classroom. She’s currently has a grant to research the link between smell and memory,” Dr. O’Leary said.

In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Ozbek also has a longstanding clinical practice at the Siskin Hospital for Rehabilitation. She presents annually on topics related to rehabilitation psychology.

“She’s our resident clinical psychologist on staff. She provides our students with first hand practical experience and gives them a deeper understanding of theories and research,” Dr. O’Leary said.
