Dustin Cawood
Dustin Cawood, assistant professor of communication at Lee University, has been nominated for a Motion Picture Sound Editor’s guild Golden Reel award in the “Feature Animation” category. He was nominated for his work on Laika Entertainment’s “The Boxtrolls.”
“It’s an honor to be nominated by your peers for your talent and dedication to the art form,” said Mr. Cawood.
Mr. Cawood won a Golden Reel award for his work on “Wall-E” in 2009. He has also been nominated for six other Golden Reel awards for his work as a sound effect editor on “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa,” “Toy Story 3,” “Super 8,” “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Cars 2,” and “Monsters University.” In 2014, Mr. Cawood also won a Hollywood Post Alliance Award for his work on Pixar Animation Studios’ “Toy Story OF TERROR!”
Prior to joining Lee’s Department of Communication Arts in fall 2013, Mr. Cawood spent 10 years in California working in the film and television industry at Skywalker Sound and Pixar Animation Studios. His credits as sound effect editor/designer include such productions as “Lincoln,” “Star Trek,” “Star Trek: Into Darkness,” and “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.” He also served as sound designer on “Chasing Ice.”
Mr. Cawood is a native of Cleveland. He earned his master of fine arts from Florida State University and his bachelor of arts from UTC.
Founded in 1953, the MPSE is an organization dedicated to improving the recognition of its members by educating the public and the rest of the filmmaking community as to the artistic merit of sound editing. The MPSE will host its 62nd Annual Awards on Feb. 15, 2015 in Los Angeles. These awards recognize the year’s best work in various areas of sound editing.
