White, Betty Jean Smith

Betty Jean Smith White died on January 17, 2015.

She was born on July 19, 1938 the third of nine children born to the union of the late Villard and Lena Mae Smith.  

She retired from Memorial Hospital.  She was a member of Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church and resided in Orchard Knob Apartments.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Larry Hampton, brother, Rousaw Smith, and sister, Mabel Ramsey.

She is survived by her daughters, Glynis (Johnny) Franklin and Ginnell McCauley of Chattanooga, and son, Philette and Phil Hampton of Florence, Al.; 13 grandchildren, two brothers, four sisters, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A homegoing celebration will be on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Friday, Jan. 23, and the family will receive friends from 6–7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
