Romantic Drama Features Work Of Southern Professors, Students

  • Friday, January 23, 2015

Several Southern Adventist University faculty, students, and alumni worked on “Old Fashioned” a film that will have its national release on Valentine's Day, opening opposite (and in stark contrast to) 50 Shades of Grey.

“Old Fashioned” is a romantic drama about the complications of godly courtship. Rik Swartzwelder (its writer, director, and lead actor) was artist-in-residence and an adjunct professor at Southern while he edited the film. A sampling of additional connections to Southern include:

David George (professor in Southern's School of Visual Art and Design) was the cinematographer. Zach Gray (professor in Southern's School of Visual Art and Design) was the consulting director.  Melody George (alumnae) was production designer and Bryan Fowler (alumnus) was camera operator. Nathan Dewild and Chris Stiles (alumni who were students at the time) were camera assistants.

Film has national release on Valentine's Day and will be showing locally at Carmike 18 IMAX (and potentially other locations).
