Glen Edward Payne
Police said a Chattanooga man with a rap sheet six pages long sped away from police, then wrecked the vehicle, leaving his female passenger trapped inside.
Glen Edward Payne, 39, of Shady Lane, is facing a new round of charges. They include aggravated assault, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, driving on a revoked license, having an expired license, no proof of insurance, failing to halt at a stop sign, failing to stay in lane, and failing to use turn signal.
In the incident on Wednesday, an officer said he saw a vehicle turn right without signaling from Rossville Boulevard to Lindburg Avenue. The vehicle then went across the center line, then it sped through a red light at Holtzclaw and 23rd Street.
The officer then activated his lights and began a pursuit. He pulled back on the chase after the vehicle started traveling at a high rate of speed.
The officer turned onto Main Street and saw where the dark SUV had wrecked on its side at the corner of Highland Park Avenue.
A black male wearing a red jacket jumped out of the stranded vehicle and took off running. He was later captured by police.
Sherry Mull, 44, was initially trapped in the SUV.
