Shirley McBroom "Peggy" Jorges, 90, died peacefully on January 26, 2015 after a brief illness.

Peggy was born in Chattanooga on March 21, 1924. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Andrew and Mary Ida McBroom; her husband of 57 years, Edward W. Jorges; and her two sons, Robert Joseph and Stephen Edward.

Peggy graduated from Central High School. After attending Bob Jones University, she worked as a secretary in the office of Highland Park Baptist Church where she was a member.

Music was an overarching passion throughout her life. As a child, she played piano by ear and later taught herself to play the organ. Peggy sang in the choir and the Ladies' Trio of Highland Park Baptist Church for approximately 32 years. After moving to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, and joining First Baptist Church, she organized and directed a women's chorus called "The Joyful Noise".

Peggy loved poetry in addition to music, and she was a gifted poet in her own right. She loved to write about the beauty of creation and her strong faith in God.

In addition, Peggy unselfishly devoted many hours of her time to Hutcheson Medical Center as a "Pink Lady".  One of her largest projects there was helping to establish "The Hutch" gift and flower shop for the benefit of the hospital and patients.

She is survived by her two daughters, Janet Faith Jorges-Samsel and Joy Jorges (Denis) Dobosh; grandchildren: David (Cheryl) Parker, Diana (Rickey) Johnson, Denise Sterchi; Nick Dobosh and Andrew Dobosh; eight great-grandchildren, Parker, Anna, Laura, Blake, Will, Olivia, Elaina and Luke. In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Martha Ramseur, Longwood, Florida and Juliet Nite, Chattanooga and sister-in-law, Mayre Lou (Don) Bowman.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, in the funeral home chapel with Chaplain Bill Morgan officiating.  Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Bible Village, Hixson, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, or another charity of your choice.

The family wants to especially thank Holly and her staff at Morning Pointe of Chattanooga on Shallowford Road for the loving care they have given Peggy for the last three and a half years.

Peggy lived for her family and for God's glory. She was a blessing to everyone she met and we were blessed to have her in our lives!
