Cleveland State To Offer Affordable Health Care Enrollment Workshop On Saturday

  • Monday, January 26, 2015

The Office of Community Relations and Special Programs at Cleveland State Community College is partnering with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee to offer an Affordable Health Care Enrollment Workshop on Saturday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Room 120 of the CSCC library.

The purpose of this event is to allow people to gain information about the various health insurance options available, as well as to help individuals understand the Affordable Care Act and the implications if they do not sign up by the deadline.

Tracey Wright, assistant to the president for Community Relations and Special Programs, said, “Many Americans, as they file their income tax, will realize that they have been hit with a financial penalty for failure to sign up last year during the registration period. We are aiding BlueCross BlueShield in trying to help people get the coverage they need and avoid paying the penalty. There are a large number of Americans who as a result of registering during last year’s registration period are for the first time able to make preventative health care visits or receive coverage for a pre-existing condition.”

Shena Allen, BlueCross BlueShield Marketplace advocate, said, “With the February 15th deadline approaching, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is here to help provide peace of mind to Tennesseans by answering any questions they may have about the marketplace and assisting them with the enrollment process. Reality is, individuals don’t have to make this decision on their own, so please stop by and meet with a BlueCross Advocate because we are eager to help.”

Ms. Wright said, “This is our second year to be involved with this type of effort. We participated last year with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Trained personnel from BlueCross BlueShield will be on hand to provide assistance and answer questions. Those planning to enroll or re-enroll should bring their contact information, employer and income information for each member of the household. They should also bring their email address with them.”
