Three Hamilton County legislators were awarded the Legislator of the Year awards for 2014 by TN911, an association of Emergency Communications Districts across Tennessee. The 2014 President John Stuermer presented the awards on behalf of TN911 to Senator Bo Watson, Senator Todd Gardenhire and Representative Gerald McCormick.

Mr. Stuermer said, “It is my distinct honor, on behalf of TN911 and the folks who work in emergency communications across this state, to recognize each of you with this award for your dedication and commitment to improving the 911 system in Tennessee. Each of you has made a significant contribution and together your efforts have made the difference in the improvement of 911 operations in Tennessee. Senator Gardenhire chaired a special committee and held meetings leading to the development of our 2014 legislation. Senator Bo Watson and Representative Gerald McCormick sponsored the legislation and worked through several meetings both in Nashville and in Hamilton County as we developed the legislation. We are very fortunate in Hamilton County to have such a strong delegation of State Senators and Representatives and I personally want to thank each of you for going above and beyond for the citizens in Hamilton County in support of our 911 districts, we thank you for your leadership.”

“I’m honored to receive this award from TN911. The emergency communications community plays a vital role in the health and safety of citizens all across Tennessee, and particularly here in Hamilton County. I’m hopeful that our efforts last session will provide improvements and assistance to their operations,” said Leader McCormick.

Senator Todd Gardenhire said, “Without the help and support of TN911 and its directors, the reforming of the State Emergency Communications network across Tennessee would not have happened. When I first came to the Senate, I found that, for several years, different legislators had tried to fix the problems of the 911 system; but different spheres of influence had been protecting their own turf and keeping efforts from succeeding. I am grateful for TN911 and the help they gave to achieve our goals.”

TN911 is a non-profit association comprised of Tennessee Emergency Communication Districts directors and executive board members. The mission of TN911 is to advocate for improvements in the overall Emergency Communications system in Tennessee.
