Highland Center Offers African Dance Workshop This Saturday

  • Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Kids ages 5 to 10 (both boys and girls) have a chance to learn some serious African dance moves with dancer/teacher Rebekah Mawuko and her drummer husband, well-known local musician Kofi Mawuko. The Highland Center offers its second “Five-Star Arts Day” with an African Dance Workshop featuring the Mawukos this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Center.

This workshop is being partially subsidized by the 21st Century Neighborhood Association, and therefore the fee for each child for the one-hour workshop is only $3.

(Special arrangements can be made for families who cannot afford this fee or have more than one child attending.)

The Highland Center is located in the former 21st Century Academy magnet school; prior to that, the building was Brainerd Junior High. It is now privately owned and more and more community programming is being made possible there.

The workshop will take place at  The Highland Center, Tuxedo Circle at Hollyberry, off Brainerd Rd. To register and for more information, contact Janis Hashe at (423) 622-2862 or jhashe@epbfi.com.
