John Austin “Peahead” Davis, 91, of Cleveland, TN, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at his home.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II in Germany, France and Belgium. “Peahead” was an owner/operator of a convenience store, Ocoee Superette for many years and also worked at Davis Braided Rug Company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Grady Simpson Davis; son, Johnny Davis; three sisters, Jewell Carroll, Melba Schrader and Nellie Davis; and four brothers, Paul M. Davis, Arvell Davis, J.T. Davis and Alvin Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary Glen Davis of Cleveland; two children, Jeff Davis and Leigh Ann Gleason, both of Cleveland; eight grandchildren, Chris King, Laura Patterson, Katy DeFriese and Evan Davis, all of Cleveland; Matthew Davis, Andrew Davis and Charlie Davis, all of Atlanta and Anna Fair of Murfreesboro; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Hicks and husband, James of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 30, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Tim Bracken and the Reverend Marshall Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. Chris King, Andrew Davis, Matthew Davis, Charlie Davis, Evan Davis and Kenneth Hicks will serve as pallbearers.
His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 29 at the Fike Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.
