Police Blotter: Pair Pursued By Police Exit Car While It's Still Going

Police said a pair being pursued by police jumped out of their green Nissan Quest while it was still moving.

Officers began following the car at Hunt Drive and Florida Street. The vehicle did not stop, but sped up.

As police closed in, the driver and passenger both bailed.

Police managed to stop the Quest just before it rolled into traffic at the busy corner of Lee Highway and Vance Road.

The vehicle turned out not to be stolen.

Joe Despaux said he was hunting with his brother, Kellen, from a boat near Cummings Highway.

He laid his 12-gauge shotgun in the boat.

While getting out of the boat, the gun went off with the bullet striking him in the lower right leg.

Police said both brothers gave the same version and there was a bullet hole in the side of the boat.

Only minor injuries were incurred.

A woman at the Doubletree hotel downtown who was meeting a friend for breakfast left her purse in a chair while going to the buffet.

Only later - at her hair appointment - did she learn that her wallet was missing.

Thieves have struck the heat/air system at Sandy's Mini-Market on Glass Street once again.

A large amount of copper was cut from the unit.

It left the owner with a $3,500 repair.

Dentist Riley Lunn found multiple sets of mattresses and box springs on his parking lot on Brainerd Road.

He told police he suspected they came from the Economy Inn.

AK Patel of the inn acknowledged he had just paid a man to carry off the items. He said it would not happen again and he would have it cleaned up.

The Walmart on Gunbarrel Road was hit by a team of three black females and a black male.

They went into the garden area and each grabbed a scooter, then ran to a black sedan.

The loss was $516.
