Virginia "Gina" Roy Newberry, 66, died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at her house which she designed in Harrison.

A life-long Chattanoogan, she was a graduate of Brainerd High School and member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Bayside Baptist Church. She was a member of the Roy, Varnell and Murphy families of Ooltewah and Chattanooga. She was the sole daughter of Hoyle and Margaret Murphy Roy, and sister to Bill Roy. She worked many years at Stowers Machinery/CAT, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, as well as local auto dealerships.  She was often involved in the Harrison/Highway 58 community.

Gina was a champion to working women, especially mothers, and continuously fought against views that limited women into certain roles in the workplace.

Her legacy lives on through the many people she helped over the years, through the people she impressed and through her son, William Newberry (wife, Lesa Bowen) and grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth, Alexandra Hope and William Bowen.

There will be a private service and burial for the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen or the Varnell Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 7426 Emanon Road, Harrison, Tn. 37341.
