Tennessee Scores At 2015 USTA Southern Mixed Doubles Sectional Championships In Chattanooga

  • Sunday, October 11, 2015

Tennessee used its home state advantage to place five teams in the finals, outdistancing other states in the 2015 USTA Southern Mixed Doubles Sectional Championships, played Oct. 9-11, in Chattanooga.

Jay Huffman captained two Volunteer State championship teams. He guided the Adult 6.0 18 & Over and 40 & Over squads from Knoxville also had two other victors and a finalist.

Mississippi had two champions and two finalists.

The 2015 USTA Southern Mixed Doubles Sectional Championships were played at four facilities: the Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont Park (tournament headquarters), Baylor School, The McCallie School and, due to rain on Saturday, the Racquet Club of Chattanooga.

There were 92 teams with 668 registered players competing for the right to represent USTA Southern at the USTA National Mixed Doubles Championships. Ten teams will advance in the following levels: Adult 18 & Over – 2.5, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 and 10.0, and Adult 40 & Over – 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0. USTA Championships will be contested next month in Arizona.

Teams consisted of at least three men and three women and each match consists of three courts. The combined NTRP rating of the two players on court must equal the level’s number. In the 2.5 level, all players must be rated 2.5. Teams began play in a round-robin format. The winner of each flight met Sunday in the finals, except for the Adult 18 & Over 2.5 and 10.0 levels, which played a round robin only.

Champions and finalists, and their captains, are:
