Police have arrested 21-year-old Antonio Evans in connection with a carjacking on the UTC campus on Friday after a pursuit that ended with a three-vehicle wreck just off I-24 in Brainerd.

Evans, who was already on probation and wearing a court-ordered tracking device, was charged with unlawful possessing a weapon during the commission of a felony.

An officer on Sunday at 9:45 p.m. spotted a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle that was taken at UTC. It was a white Ford Focus hatchback heading north on Orchard Knob Avenue.

The officer did a U-turn and began following the Ford Focus, which sped up and ran several stop signs.

The chase led to the 4th Avenue exit of I-24, where the Ford Focus sped around a car on the right shoulder. It ended after the vehicle got off at South Moore Road and struck two vehicles stopped at a red light.

Three occupants jumped out and tried to get away. Evans was stopped a couple of hours later near McBrien Road and Anderson Avenue.

Police were able to check his GPS device to determine that he had gone on the path of the pursuit.

During the hunt for the men and along the chase route, police found two guns they apparently ditched - a Smith and Wesson 9 millimeter handgun and a loaded Glock 19.

Evans had a prior felony theft charge.

Police said he is a validated member of the Skyline Piru gang.
