The Lee University Chorale
will present its fall concert with special guest, the Walker Valley High School Chamber Choir on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall.
The Walker Valley Chamber Choir, conducted by Melanie Oran, will open the concert with American spirituals arranged by André J. Thomas and Robert Ray. They will also present “Grace Before Sleep” by Susan LaBarr.
Chorale’s program will feature works by modern composers Daniel E. Gawthrop, René Clausen, and Steven Sametz, along with classic works by Josquin des Prez and Johannes Brahms.
A set of German part songs by Brahms will feature pianist Dr. Cahill Smith, assistant professor of piano at Lee.
The two choirs will come together to close the program with the energetic spiritual “The Battle of Jericho,” arranged by Moses Hogan.
The Chamber Choir is auditioned from over 175 vocal students active in the choral program at Walker Valley High School. This ensemble serves as an ambassador for the school both in their concert performances and in multiple community events.
The Lee University Chorale is directed by School of Music Dean Dr. William R. Green. Chorale has been featured in performances at Carnegie Hall and has performed throughout Europe. Their most recent travels have taken them to Austria to represent the university in the 2014 Vienna Advent Sing. They are known for their wide repertoire, ranging from classical to spiritual to cultural pieces.
The concert is a free, non-ticketed event, and everyone is welcome to attend. Pangle Hall is located on the corner of Church Street and Central Avenue.
