Montgomery, AL. – The home standing Faulkner University volleyball team (18-10 overall, 8-4 SSAC) took five sets to defeat Dalton State Saturday afternoon at Tyne Davis Gymnasium.
The Roadrunners got off to a great start with a 25-22 first set victory. The Eagles came back to take the next couple of sets by identical 25-20 scores. Dalton State never trailed in the fourth set. Faulkner did tie the match at 15 before the visitors went on a 10-3 run for a 25-18 win.
The Eagles took their first lead of the tie-breaker at 8-7.
They broke open a 10-10 knot to win the set 15-11.
Dalton State’s Savannah Nelson scored 14.5 points with 14 kills. Kianna Delaney and Marta Guntin each had 10 kills. Delaney had 12.5 points and seven digs. Guntin had 11.5 points and seven digs. Anna Metzler had eight kills, 10 points and 13 digs. Michael Askew provided 35 assists to go with eight digs. Karly Newman had 21 digs in limited action.
“We fought hard and played well,” said Coach Bruna Langner. “Faulkner got us in the end, but we are getting better at playing in this conference.”
The Roadrunners fell to 10-11 on the season and 4-7 SSAC. They return home to take on Brenau University Tuesday night at B. J. Bandy Gymnasium. The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
