Toys, gloves, scarves, hats, socks, and other items collected for Operation Santa
Operation Santa is a private charity in North Hamilton County which services families that do not qualify for other holiday support. Many of these family have burdensome hospital bills or are under employed which makes it prohibitive for families to have a nice Christmas. Andrea Smith started Operation Santa to meet the needs of these families.
As the National Day of Service project, members of the Judge David Campbell DAR Chapter chose to collect items for Operation Santa. Including the items collected in September and in October they filled five 30-gallon containers with blankets and throws; one large, corrugated box with items for infants and toddlers; and two large, corrugated boxes with gifts for girls and one for boys. They also received enough gloves, jackets and scarves to fill a 30-gallon container and another 30-gallon container of socks. Additionally, there was a grocery-size bag of items just for teens and one 30-gallon container designated for the elderly.
Members of the Nancy Ward, Moccasin Bend DAR Chapters and Col. Return Jonathan Meigs Society of the Children of the American Revolution chapters also participated with donations and time.
