Florence Cooke, 96, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Saturday morning, October 3, 2015, at Morningside Assisted Living.
A native and lifelong resident of Bradley County, she was a longtime member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, the Ruth Aiken Circle and the Fealty Sunday School Class. She was the owner of the Empress Beauty Shop and a long time licensed cosmetologist in Cleveland and St. Petersburg, Florida. She served as past president of the Cleveland Hairdresser’s Association and was a long time member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Fred Cooke and Marie Vickers Cooke; sisters, Christine Cooke, Thelma White, Margaret Rymer and Delois Taylor; and brothers, twin Lawrence Cooke, Walter Cooke and Johnny Cooke.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Bivens of Cleveland; and sisters-in-law, Louise Cooke of Cleveland and Roberta Cooke of Ravenna, OH; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
A Celebration of Life and Home going for Florence Cooke will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, from the chapel of Grissom-Serenity Funeral Home with Reverend Debbie Stokes officiating. Interment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1p.m. until the funeral hour on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Congregational Care at Broad Street United Methodist Church.
