Bennie Tiller
Bennie A. Tiller, Sr., 86, died on October 4, 2015, after a brief courageous battle with cancer.
Bennie was born on Jan. 6, 1929, in Athens, Ga., to parents, Thomas and Bertha Tiller. He retired from Brock Candy Company after 40 years of service. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church for many years and faithfully served for the usher’s ministry up until his illness.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bennie A. Tiller, Jr.; daughter, Esther P. Tiller; brothers, Wiley, John Henry, James, and Fred Lee Tiller; sisters, Lounette Tiller and Hazel Barnes.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Queen Tiller and their children, Dr. Kathy Simpson, Vanessa Tiller, Cynthia Tiller, Tim (Constance) Tiller, Frances (Greg) Beasley, and Scott (Melanie) Tiller; grandchildren, Tiffany (Quinton) Parker, Jeremy (Mia) Beasley, Antoine Grimes, Queen Cymone Tiller, John Tiller, Joshua Beasley, and Justin Tiller; sister, Pearl (JC) Hubbard; a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8, at noon at New Home Baptist Church, at 2809 13th Ave. with Elder G. M. Spotts officiating and Pastor James Calhoun eulogizing. Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The body will lie in state after noon on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and the family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
