John A. Grover, 92, of Hixson, Tennessee, died on Friday, October 2, 2015.

He had recently said “They say the return is sweeter”.  John was born in Cheshire, Ohio on Oct. 27, 1922 to parents, John Alexander and Edith  Ethel (Yeauger) Grover. He served three years in the European Theatre during WWII in the 225 Army Anti Aircraft (AAA) Battalion, earning four Bronze Stars.

John served in supervisory position for production at the Ohio Locomotive Crane Company in Bucyrus, OH, Lorain Crane in Bucyrus, OH and Chattanooga, as well as the Koehring Company and Century Wrecker Company, both in Chattanooga. John was an avid bowler and golfer. He also enjoyed baseball, gardening, woodworking, and designing and making things. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and was known for making people smile.  

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leota May Grover on Dec. 31, 2014, by his parents, and sisters, Narcia, Vivian, Louise, and Kathryn.

He will be greatly missed by those who survive him, including his daughter, Ruth Ellen Grover of Chattanooga; son, John Raymond Grover and wife, Anna of Tiffin, OH; brother, James Wesley Grover; grandson, John Robert Grover (wife, Mardawna Montgomery) of Noblesville, IN; granddaughter, Susan Ellen Grover of Grove City, OH; grandson, Paul Lawrence Grover (wife, Heather Lynn) of Tiffin, OH; and great grandchildren, Nicholas Howard Grover and Nathan John Grover.

Funeral services for Mr. Grover will be at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 12:30 PM with Pastors Reed Shell and Paul Longmire officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 8th from 6 to 8 PM and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
