A man whose family say is a mental health patient has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault after he hit his niece and nephew and threatened them with a knife.

The victims told police on Tuesday that their uncle, Ronald Watt, 60, suddenly became angry for no reason while in their home on the 2300 block of Kirby Avenue.

They said that he came toward his teenage nephew and began punching him in the face.

The nephew defended himself by punching back.

The niece said that she attempted to intervene, but the defendant began punching her as well.

They said the defendant then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and tried to cut them, but missed. They also said that he is a mental health patient who is not currently taking his medication.

Watt is currently facing a $15,000 bond.
