Lee University will host the 24th annual Dorm Wars competition on Monday at 8 p.m. in the Paul Dana Walker Arena.
Dorm Wars is an annual competition that emphasizes the value of friendly competition and fundraising for a valuable cause. The event, organized by Lee’s Department of Residential Life, will push participants to their physical limit, as well as raise money for various service organizations. The first, second, and third place winners will receive a monetary donation for their designated organization.
Every residence hall on campus will participate in the event, along with a designated faculty sponsor. Other Lee staff members will be involved in the competition as officials and scorekeepers.
“Dorm Wars has become such a huge part of our campus culture over the past two and half decades,” said Ben Jones, area coordinator of Residential Life. “We’re excited to bring another great event to campus on Monday night. Our students have been training for over a month and are ready to see who the winners will be.”
With over 1,500 students attending in previous years, Dorm Wars has become one of the most anticipated events on campus. At the end of the night, the coveted title of “Dorm Wars Champion” will be given to one male hall and one female hall, and the charity of their choice will be supported through financial contribution.
This year the competition will support: New Hope Pregnancy Center, Unity Center, Project: Free2Fly, The Salvation Army, Cleveland Emergency Shelter, Boys and Girls Club, YMCA Community Action Program, Habitat for Humanity, The Zion Project, and Second Life Chattanooga.
According to Mr. Jones, those wanting to support the organizations can mention “Dorm Wars” at the Menchie’s frozen yogurt checkout from Thursday, Oct. 8, thru Thursday, Oct. 15, and at Dos Bros on Thursday for a portion of the proceeds to be donated. Dos Bros will also be handing out free chips and salsa after the event.
