Dalton State Volleyball Falls To Life University

Marietta, GA. – The Dalton State volleyball team lost a hard fought match Thursday night at Life University’s “Eagles Nest”.

It went to five sets, before the Running Eagles (12-7) prevailed, 3 sets to 2.

The Roadrunners jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first set only to see Life tie the game on a five point run. Dalton State had their own five point run to go ahead 13-8. The Running Eagles came back to take the lead at 15-14. DS would tie the score at 15 before life pulled away to a 23-17 lead.  The Roadrunners never gave up, but lost the set, 25-22.

The teams went back and forth to start the second game with neither team earning more than a one point lead until Dalton State went up 12-10 and then 14-11. After Life pulled to within one at 16-15, the Roadrunners pulled away to win the set, 25-17, and tie the match at 1-1. Dalton State would go on to easily win the third set, 25-18.

The hosts tied the match in the fourth set. After a couple of quick Dalton State leads, the Running Eagles ran out to a 5-2 advantage and maintained the three point difference through 12-9 and then expanded the lead to eight (17-9). Life went on to take the set, 25-14.

The hosts jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the tie-breaker and went on to take the set, 15-8.

“Life is a great team and we were glad to play a team that challenged us,” said DS Coach Bruna Langner. “It helps us prepare for two great conference matches next week.

Roadrunner volleyball (7-9, 3-5) is off until Friday, October 16th at 7:00 p.m. when they jump back into Southern States Athletic Conference competition against defending SSAC champs Coastal Georgia in Brunswick at 7:00 p.m. The Mariners are unbeaten in the conference. Dalton State then goes to Brewton-Parker in Mount Vernon, GA. for a 2:00 p.m. match on Saturday, October 17th.
