Nine Chattanooga-area high school football teams are still alive in the TSSAA playoffs and six of them will be going head-to-head for berths in the semifinals.
In Class 2A, Tyner, which shocked top-ranked Boyd-Buchanan in last week’s second round, travels to Jasper to take on the Marion County Warriors, whose only loss came at the hands of the Bucs when the two teams were ranked 1-2.
The Rams, avenging a lopsided regular-season loss to Boyd-Buchanan, suffered a 33-20 loss home-field loss to the Warriors on Oct.
2.
Undefeated East Ridge, which extends a school-record run with each win, will be at home against Notre Dame.
The Pioneers are coming off a 28-0 win against Chattanooga Christian and the Irish blasted Upperman, 45-6, in the Class 3A bracket.
In Class 5A, Rhea County visits Ooltewah’s James N. Monroe Stadium on the Owls’ campus for the second time this season as that rivalry continues to heat up.
The Golden Eagles went to Knoxville last week and eliminated Farragut, 40-34, while the Owls escaped Oak Ridge, 26-17, with a solid performance against the four-time champion Wildcats.
Rhea County whipped Ooltewah, 47-14, in the 2014 second round when both teams were undefeated and the Owls avenged that loss with a 16-0 win on Sept. 18.
Now comes the same-year rematch.
In the TSSAA’s second-round bracket, this game was scheduled to be held at the Farragut-Rhea County winner’s home field. However, the bracket was adjusted and the Owls wound up with the home-field advantage.
