Whitfield County Sheriff deputies on Monday afternoon shot and killed a man they say rammed patrol cars and tried to run over an officer.

The man was identified as Brett Kelby Noblitt, 25, of Dalton.

At approximately 12:03 p.m., an officer with the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Old Grade Road area. The driver of the Cherokee refused to stop and a high speed chase ensued. The suspect vehicle rammed two patrol cars during the chase.

The chase ended on Maddox Mill Road.

The sheriff's office said the suspect "was shot and killed by officers when he attempted to run over an officer with his vehicle."

Officials said, "The suspect may have tried to elude officers due to having outstanding warrants at the time of the incident."

The Sheriff’s Office contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist in the investigation per departmental policy. The two officers that fired their weapons have been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation per departmental protocol.

The investigation is to continue.
