Ice On The Landing Opens Friday

  • Tuesday, November 17, 2015

Ice on the Landing will celebrate its opening night Friday at Ross’ Landing. Chattanooga Presents is partnering with Volkswagen Chattanooga for the second time to offer Chattanooga’s outdoor holiday ice skating rink located under the open sky at Chattanooga’s waterfront. This year the rink size has expanded to a 60’ x 100’ footprint (over last year’s 50’ x 70’ size).

The ice skating venue will be open this year from Nov. 20 through Jan. 18.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, an opening exhibition skate featuring five competitive figure skaters for the USFSA and current members of the Atlanta Figure Skating Club will provide a 20-minute showcase on the ice, prior to opening to the public at 6 p.m.

From 6-7 p.m. live music will be provided by professional organist Buddy Shirk, playing traditional holiday favorites to set the mood and music to skate to, and performed on a Roland Atelier organ, which has the sound components of a full orchestra.

Ice on the Landing will be open every day within its eight-week season, including a schedule that accommodates public skating and features special themes and events, music and promotions, as well as certain nights that benefit local charities.

Besides offering a larger rink size, also new this year is the addition of a season pass that will be available for skaters who come regularly, as well as gift cards for the rink. In addition, Ice on the Landing will offer a Basic Skills Course during two four-week sessions on Saturday and Monday mornings prior to opening hours (details available at www.iceonthelanding.com).

Visitors to the rink can stay warm with hot chocolate and other snack vendors, as well as three fire pits on site.

Like last year, tickets will be $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. This includes skate rentals and skating for two hours.

Ice on the Landing presented by Volkswagen Chattanooga is also made possible through sponsorships from Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, EPB Fiber Optics, Mark Hite with Keller Williams Realty, the Riverfront Business & Residents Partnership, LynkAmerica and Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.

A detailed schedule of operating hours and activities on the rink can be found at www.iceonthelanding.com
