Mocs Softball Announces Signing Class

  • Tuesday, November 17, 2015
The Chattanooga Mocs softball team announced its signing class to join the 2016-17 roster. It includes Maddy Adams, Celie Hudson, Amy Lewis, Aly Walker and Hayleigh Weissenbach. The five look to add speed, aggressiveness, depth and variety to the squad.

"We looked at speed and adding to the pitching and the middle infield positions when recruiting this class," coach Frank Reed stated. "The coolest thing about all of them is they're all great academic students too. I feel really good about this class athletically and academically."

Adams, Hudson and Walker come to UTC as teammates from the Illinois Force, a travel team.
Adams brings versatility, having played shortstop, pitcher, second and third base. She is mainly a shortstop, from Hobart, Ind., playing at Hobart High School. She was captain as a junior, leading the team with a .521 batting average, and receiving the best defensive player award, in addition to earning all-conference and all-area honors.

"Maddy has really good hands, a good eye for the ball, and runs bases well," explained Reed. "She brings a lot to what we can do in the middle infield and as a utility player."

Hudson is a pitcher from Paris, Tenn., playing for Henry County High School. Last year, she tallied 15 home runs and helped her team win the district tournament, earning the District Tournament Offensive Most Valuable Player award. Her resume also includes being named all-district twice.

"We were fortunate to get Celie," Reed said. "She is really strong, hits well and has a strong work ethic. We love what Celie brings to the plate."

Walker is an all-state outfielder. A native of Median, Tenn., and soon-to-be graduate of South Gibson County High School, she is a two-time Jackson Sun Hitter of the Year. She helped her team to the district championship last year and is also three-time all-district and a two-time all-state honoree.

"Aly brings speed to the game and aggressiveness on the bases," shared Reed. "She has a strong bat and hits well. I project her to hit quite a few home runs for us."

Lewis is another versatile player, having played centerfield, catcher and shortstop. She is a left-handed hitter from Evensville, Tenn., playing ball for Rhea County High School and the Frost Falcons. Her accolades include Defensive Player of the Year in her district last year and two-time Best of Preps and two-time all-district honoree.

"One of the things we like about Amy is she is always willing to take an extra base and how gutsy she is getting down to sliding," stated Reed. "She can play the infield and probably the outfield too."

Weissenbacah, from Moreno Valley, Calif., is in her fourth year playing for Martin Luther King High School. As an outfielder and left-handed hitter, she led her team to two league championship games her freshman and sophomore year. She used to play for the Batbusters 16U club team and now competes for the SoCal Athletics PV.

"Hayleigh is strong and has speed," explained Reed. "She slaps it and can hit some home runs. We really like that aggressiveness she has."

Chattanooga kicks off the 2016 season Feb. 12-16 in Clermont, Fla., for the NTC Tournament. The Mocs open up home action in the Chattanooga Spring Classic Feb. 19-21, facing Dayton, Detroit Mercy, UT-Martin, IPFW and Wright State twice.
