Georgia Northwestern Men Win, Women Lose

For the third game in a row, the Georgia Northwestern Bobcats scored more points than they did in their previous game.

And for the third game in a row, the Bobcats put a checkmark in the win column.

The Navy-and-Silver caught fire in the second half Tuesday night in Rossville, pouring in 60 points in the final 20 minutes to hand the visiting LaGrange Panthers (junior varsity) a 98-87 loss in one of the Bobcats’ highest-scoring games of all time.

Georgia Northwestern (3-1), who managed just 61 total points in their first game of the season, shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half and 56 percent for the game as they built on a 38-33 halftime advantage.

The two teams exchanged the lead several times in the first half before the Bobcats took their biggest lead of the first half into the locker room.

Georgia Northwestern did part of its damage in the second half from long range as they shot 7-of-9 (78 percent) from behind the arc.

Down 70-46 with just over 11 minutes to play, LaGrange (0-1) began to slowly chip away at the deficit. They would whittle the Bobcats’ lead down to nine in the final minute, but would get no closer.

Eleven different players got in the scoring column for the Bobcats, led by Darrius Fugh, who had a monster night with 28 points and 14 rebounds. The former Pepperell High standout went 12-of-16 from the field, including 3-of-3 from the 3-point line.

Andrew Johnson and Daniel Parrish had 12 points each with Johnson pulling down five boards. Tyler Shropshire and Ricky Cardoza had 10 points apiece. Christopher Ellis had nine points, five rebounds and four steals, while Cameron Sherlin dropped in eight points and collected five boards.

Brandon Hopson had a team-high 19 points for the Panthers, followed by Jamison McCray and Jack McCormack with 12 each. Miles Rice chipped in with 11.

Georgia Northwestern will head up Lookout Mountain on Thursday to face the Covenant College JV squad at 7:30 p.m. inside Barnes Gymnasium.

Georgia Northwestern Women 30 Brenau UV 67
A cold-shooting night was too much to overcome for the Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats on Tuesday night as the visiting (junior varsity) Golden Tigers of Brenau University came to Rossville and returned home to Gainesville, Georgia with a 67-30 victory.

Georgia Northwestern made just 1-of-9 field goals in the opening quarter and connected on just 4-of-24 for the half as Brenau opened up a 29-13 lead at the break.

Brenau (4-0) knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the first 90 seconds of the second half to open a 21-point lead and the Golden Tigers never looked back.

Kindole Pettway had 12 points on four 3-pointers for Brenau, while Skye Overby finished with 10 points.

Ashley Farrell had eight points for the Lady Bobcats in the loss. Holly Stanfield added six, while Katy Phillips and Chelseas Ludy scored four each.

Georgia Northwestern (0-5) will look to snap their slide on Thursday when the travel to face the Covenant College (JV) Lady Scots. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
