Kennedy Fleming
Kennedy Fleming, 48, was arrested on Monday after he allegedly strangled and detained his girlfriend for several hours in the tent they share behind First Baptist Church in the 400 block of Cameron Hill Center.
The victim said that the two had lain down when the defendant began accusing her of cheating on him. She said that when the argument escalated, she left the tent and was tackled from behind by Fleming.
She said that he then placed her in a stranglehold telling her that she “wasn’t going anywhere.” She was then allegedly pulled back into the tent and kept there against her will all evening.
The following day, the two went downtown and, again according to the victim, she attempted to call the police on three separate occasions. The first time, Fleming allegedly hung up the payphone she was using and several passersby rejected her request to call for her.
Finally, she contacted authorities by having an employee at Panera Bread call.
Fleming was not on scene when police arrived, but was found a street over. He said that a fight had taken place but denied assaulting the victim.
According to officers, Fleming was uncooperative and was taken into custody and is being held on a $10,000 bond.
