Burglary and theft charges were bound to the Grand Jury on Thursday against a pair of seasoned criminals.

David Keith Walker, 46, and Harry Richard Gilley, 57, appeared before Judge Gary Starnes.

Detective Jeff Baker said city and county detectives cooperated to try to halt a rash of break-ins at new homes under construction.

He said the name of Gilley came up as a suspect. Both me have criminal records dating back to the early 1990s.

Detective Baker said he and another county detective as well as two city detectives began tailing a black Jeep Cherokee on Oct. 12 as it wound through various subdivisions. He said they followed the Jeep from 8:30-11:30 p.m. before finally losing it.

A BOLO was issued and the vehicle was stopped on Volkswagen Drive at 12:40 a.m. Walker and Gilley were inside.

Detectives got a search warrant and found a GE stove inside.

Home builder Owen Pratt said he found that someone had jimmied the rear door at a house under construction at 8217 River Birch Loop Road in Ooltewah. The microwave and the GE stove were missing.

The serial number for that stove matched the one in the Jeep.

Detective Baker said the pair also broke into a house within the city limits and were also charged by the city.
