Two Soddy Daisy Police officers were given special recognition Thursday night at the Soddy Daisy Commission meeting. Lt. Jeff Gann told the commissioners that on the morning of Oct. 21, Officer Jeremy Wright and Officer Jed Krider responded to a call about an unconscious man. Upon arrival, Officer Wright observed a man outside the house that he recognized as being on the fugitive warrant list of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.  He responded by placing the fugitive, Seth Miller, under arrest on felony warrants for armed robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.

After the arrest, he continued into the house where he and Officer Krider performed CPR on the unconscious man who was successfully resuscitated. Both officers were awarded a pin for saving a life, and a letter of commendation was put into their individual files. This is the second life-saving award that each of these officers have received.

Five years ago Hamilton County was given a federal mandate for water quality management. Large and medium-sized cities such as Chattanooga have their own systems for taking care of the requirements. The small municipalities and unincorporated areas in Hamilton County also have the same obligations and have joined to form an Interlocal agreement that will create, comply and enforce the water quality program for the smaller entities. The commissioners’ vote to continue with the agreement also gave approved for the town of Walden to join the group.

Thursday night, City Manager Janice Cagle received authorization for the payment for asphalt in the amount of $14,538.  Approval was also made for purchasing street salt for the winter.

Commissioner Gene Shipley announced that the city’s Christmas celebration at Poe’s Tavern will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 3-8 p.m. Santa Claus will be available for pictures during that time. The Christmas parade will be the following day. Commissioner Jim Adams said that the company that insures Soddy Daisy has advised the city that candy should not be thrown during the parade. He said that officials have tried to notify all of the participants of this new rule. He gave assurance that there will be plenty of candy available for the children, but it must be handed out and not thrown.
