Michael R. Knauff
Micharl R. Knauff, 67, of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, November 19, 2015 in a local hospital.
He was born Jan. 11, 1948, in Honolulu, Hi., to George D. and Helen Knauff. He then moved to Napa, Ca when he was six months old. At age 10 he moved to Upton, Mo., where his divorced mother married his step-father. He graduated from Houston High School in Houston, Mo., in 1966. He then joined the Marine Corps and was stationed at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Al., after boot camp where he met the love of his life, Ann Hastings. He married Ann on Feb. 3, 1968. Shortly thereafter he was sent to Vietnam, and he and Ann had a daughter born, July 17, 1970 while being stationed in 29-Palms, California. Upon being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps he attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville and graduated in 1974 with an engineering degree.
After graduation he accepted a job offer from TVA and moved his family to Chattanooga. He retired from TVA after 18 years and worked for a number of private utilities before retiring for good.
Michael was a member of the Church of Christ but in recent years attended First Christian Church. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George D. Knauff and Helen Knauff Collins, his step-father, Laurel Collins, and brothers, George Jr, John Knauff and Gregory Knauff.
Survivors include his wife Ann; daughter, Elizabeth Mears, Nashville; grandchildren, Rachael, Laurel and Samuel West, Franklin, Tn..
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
