Betty McCrary Hodge
Betty McCrary Hodge, 79, of Soddy Daisy, died on Friday, November 20, 2015, with her daughter, Tralisa Haggard and granddaughter, Shannon Sizemore by her side.
Born in Jackson County, Al., Betty was a loving mother and was one of the finest cooks in the south. She was connected deeply with nature and animals and appreciated a good campfire from which she could watch the stars. She was an accomplished decorator, gardener and seamstress. She enjoyed creating arrangements from "weeds," such as Queen Ann's Lace and Golden Rods, and delighted in the calls of whip-poor-wills and the changing of the seasons. The birds could always find a meal waiting for them at Mrs. Hodge's home, and she would name her feathered friends who stopped by for a visit. She was retired from the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Vivian McCrary, husbands, John T. Hodge and Donald R. Haggard, son, Terry Haggard, daughter, Trina Haggard Miller, grandson, Michael Haggard and granddaughter, April Haggard.
She is survived by her daughter, Tralisa Haggard, granddaughter, Shannon Sizemore, grandson, Dallas Shumaker (Alexandria), six great grandchildren, Corbin, Hunter, Ansley, Amylou, Riley and Molly Grace; sister, Jane Ballard, special niece, Vicki Ballard, son-in-law, Allen Miller, special friend, Harriet Miller, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beloved rescued feline companion, "Tomasina".
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, and 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Hamilton Memorial Garden, Hixson, Tn. with Reverend Robert Leopold officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Metropolitan Ministries, 1112 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37404.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn.
