Lee University’s Helen DeVos College of Education honored Dr. Sharon Harper as its 2015 Distinguished Alumna at a department breakfast held during its Homecoming festivities.
“Not only has Sharon been a great ambassador for Lee University and public education in Tennessee, she has continually stayed connected with the College of Education and worked with us in our teacher education programs,” said Dr. Bill Estes, dean of the HDCOE.
Dr. Harper currently serves as the executive director of the Southeast Center of Regional Excellence for the Tennessee Department of Education providing academic support to 14 districts in the southeast region.
She has nearly 17 years of teaching and administrative experience in Tennessee schools where she has taught and served as assistant principal and principal. Prior to that, Dr. Harper was the testing coordinator and data analyst in Bradley County Schools. She is also an award-winning choir teacher.
Dr. Harper earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University, a master’s of education in secondary English from UTC, a master’s of education in music from Shenandoah Conservatory, and a bachelor of music education from Lee University.
She is married to Lee’s campus pastor, Dr. Jimmy Harper.
