Constance Lynn Shumate, 73, of East Ridge, Tennessee, died early Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Saint Thomas West Medical Center in Nashville.
She was born in Richmond, VA on Aug. 30, 1942 to the late George and June (Clevenger) Stapleton; and was also preceded in death by her infant son, Timmy Shumate; and her brother, Scott Stapleton.
Connie was a graduate of the Lord Botetourt High School in Troutville, VA. She was a long time resident of East Ridge and had been employed by Bi-Lo/Food City for the past 30 years. She loved gardening, flowers, talking, family, coffee and Alabama football and was of the Presbyterian faith.
She is survived by her four children, Todd (Virginia) Shumate of Orlando, FL, Shannon (Dan) Perkins of Chattanooga, Tammy (Vince) Martinez of Spring City and Tony Shumate of Chattanooga; her brother, Jon (Margie) Stapleton of Clifton Forge, VA; two sisters, Karen Posten of Lexington, VA and Kathy (John) Turner of Buckhannon, WV; her sister-in-law, Kathy Stapleton of Covington, VA; and six grandchildren, Jacqueline (Alex Rivera) Martinez, Victoria (fiancée Andy Vanderwall) Martinez, Mark Shumate, Sammy Shumate, Kyle Perkins and Trayson Martinez.
Funeral services for Connie will be held Saturday, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Fields officiating.
