The Southeast TN Council for HIV/AIDS Care and Prevention, in partnership with the city of Chattanooga and The Hunter Museum of American Art, will host World AIDS Day 2015 events on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and Sunday, Dec. 6.
These events will highlight the arc of the pandemic, how the southern United States is the epicenter of the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic, the impact specific to the Chattanooga area, and how to end AIDS in Chattanooga.
Community volunteer Mark Grantham, who was honored as one of POZ magazine’s Top 100 Long Term Survivors, will be among the speakers, as will local advocate, Nico Howcroft, who will be premiering his documentary, “PrEP: My Personal Journey.”
All events are free and open to the public.
The Tuesday, Dec. 1, event will be held at Chattanooga City Hall. Here is the schedule:
11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Presentation of Mayor Berke’s World AIDS Day Proclamation. World AIDS
Day tree ornament crafting. Tree on display thru Dec 7.
5-5:45 p.m.: Memorial ceremony in foyer; Instrumental music by Robin Burke.
5:45-6 p.m.: Candlelight procession to Chattanooga City Council
6-6:30 p.m.: World AIDS Day Presentation to Chattanooga City Council
6:30-8:30 p.m.: World AIDS Day Program in the Veranda Room: world premiere of documentary, panel discussion, catering by Virginia College Culinary Arts
The Sunday, Dec. 6, event will be held at The Hunter Museum. Here is the schedule:
12-5 p.m.: Chattanooga CARES’ mobile testing unit onsite; FACING AIDS project and pictures with Dab the AIDS Bear; local AIDS memorial quilts on display; short films.
