In celebration of Small Business Saturday, community leaders along with River City Company, Bike Walk Chattanooga and Bike Chattanooga have teamed up to create a family friendly slow ride and shop event on Broad Street and along Northshore on Saturday, from 1–3 p.m.
Small Business Saturday Slow Ride and Shop Event is designed to encourage locals to Shop Small this Saturday while enjoying a casual ride through the Broad Street protected bike lanes. The community is invited to join fellow Chattanoogans and organizations to celebrate Small Business Saturday with a slow ride and Shop Event on Saturday, from 1-3 p.m. The ride will begin at Chattz, located at The Block, where riders can sip coffee while visiting High Point Climbing, Mellow Mushroom, and Rock Creek. Riders will then cruise down Broad Street stopping at local shops including Yacoubian’s, Back Street Betty’s, All Books and Natural Body. Ride participants will then be encouraged to pedal their way across the Walnut Street Bridge to shop at Northshore Retailers.
Ride participants will be given a Retail Passport at the beginning of the ride in which they will receive a stamp at each location listed on the route. After all stamps have been collected, riders can turn their Passports in at either downtown Rock Creek location for a chance to win a prize package from those local shops that were visited. The prize package includes gift certificates from High Point Climbing and Fitness, Rock/Creek, Mellow Mushroom, Chattz Coffee and Natural Body. Passports must be turned in by 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Bike Chattanooga will be onsite at the Shuttle Park Station offering a limited number of free bike rentals to those that do not have a bike and wish to participate in the ride. Riders must be 16+ with a guardian or 18+.
The community is encouraged to bring a helmet if you are joining the slow ride. Helmets are not required for anyone over the age of 16, but encouraged. For more information on the Small Business Saturday Slow Ride, visit the facebook page at http://on.fb.me/1R6rdwf.
This is the group’s second community bike ride showcasing Bike Means Business, a community-led initiative to demonstrate "that providing alternative ways for people to move through one's city does not hurt business; it helps."
