John Kenyon, media specialist at Georgia Northwestern Technical College, received a Silver Medallion Award and two Bronze Medallion Awards from District 2 of the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations.

The awards were presented to Mr. Kenyon at the NCMPR District 2 Annual Conference in Biloxi, Miss.

Mr. Kenyon received a Silver Medallion Award for the feature article “Training Students in Green Building Techniques” and the two Bronze Medallion Awards in the Video Advertisement and College Promotional Video categories. He was cited for his role as videographer, editor, and producer for the GNTC commercial “Get focused. Get hired.” and the program video “Instrumentation and Controls.”

“The multiple campus locations and disciplines of study at GNTC really lends itself to some great stories and videos,” said Mr. Kenyon.

Jon Nelson, president of OSG Sports Media and host for Georgia Public Broadcasting, provided voice-over narration for the two videos. The commercial was part of the larger “Get focused. Get hired” marketing campaign spearheaded by Amber Jordan, director of marketing and PR at GNTC.

The feature article “Training Students in Green Building Techniques” was about GNTC’s Residential Energy Efficiency Technology program. It was written specifically for the SkillsUSA edition of the Georgia Contractor Magazine which has a circulation of over 15,000 and was distributed at the SkillsUSA State Championships in Atlanta. The Residential Energy Efficiency Technology program was selected as the subject since it is a new program, a newsworthy topic, and the content is relevant to the subject matter of the magazine. The institutional commercial “Get focused. Get hired.” was produced for student recruitment and branding purposes. The 30 second spot showcased GNTC’s four academic divisions and provided a multilayered graphical oversight of the five campus locations. The commercial was broadcast on television, as a movie theater ad, on GNTC’s website and social media channels, and on some local and regional news websites. To view the commercial, click here.

The video “Instrumentation and Controls” was intended to visually illustrate the advantages and hands-on learning aspects of GNTC’s Instrumentation and Controls program and to inform potential students of what is involved in the field of I & C as a career path. The video also featured the Instrumentation and Controls Academy, an educational partnership with Georgia Power and Southern Company, which is available as an option to students that excel in the program.
