The Georgia Northwestern Bobcats and Lady Bobcats will host the first Tim Walthour Memorial Invitational Basketball Tournament on Dec. 11 and 12 at the Rossville Athletic Center.
The action will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11 as the Welch College Lady Flames take on the junior varsity Bears of Truett-McConnell College. The Welch College men will conclude the afternoon session at 5 p.m. with a game against Hines Prep Academy of North Carolina.
The host schools will take the court in the evening session. The Lady Bobcats will face Hines Prep Academy at 7 p.m., followed by the nightcap between the Bobcats and Trinity Baptist of Florida at approximately 9 p.m.
Play resumes at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with the Georgia Northwestern women taking on Truett-McConnell, followed at 10:30 by the Welch College women against Hines Prep. Trinity Baptist’s men will battle Hines Prep at 12:30 p.m. and the event will conclude at 2:30 with a game between the Bobcats and Welch College.
The tournament will also serve as Alumni Weekend. Anyone who has ever attended Georgia Northwestern or its predecessors Northwestern Technical College, Walker Technical College or Coosa Valley Technical College, are invited to attend and will receive free admission. Alumni will also be recognized during halftime of Friday’s 7 p.m. game.
The Bobcat Athletic Department will also be holding its annual Toy Drive during the weekend. Spectators who bring in one new, unwrapped toy will also receive free admission to the tournament.
General admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children under 12 will be admitted free and Georgia Northwestern students will be admitted free with a student ID.

Tim Walthour was a former player for current Georgia Northwestern head coach and Athletic Director David Stephenson and later was an assistant coach at Georgia Northwestern. Walthour was very active in the Lookout Mountain chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and served on its Board of Directors. A great servant of the community, Walthour loved the game of basketball and this tournament will honor his memory.
