Erlanger Adds 4 Orthopedic Specialists, Bringing Total To 18 Employed In Orthopedic Center Of Excellence

The Erlanger Health System announces the addition of three orthopedic surgeons and an interventional physiatrist to its Orthopedic Center of Excellence, bringing the total to 18 specialists.  

"Erlanger's orthopedic program has dramatically grown over the past two years and now offers the most comprehensive range of adult and pediatric orthopedic services in an academic medical center," officials said.

The four local specialists, currently associated with Chattanooga Bone and Joint Surgeons, are:  Dr. David Bruce, Dr. Peter Lund, Dr. David Lowry and Dr. Jeremy Bruce.

Dr. David Bruce is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine, having completed a fellowship at Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Ga, and in Pediatric Orthopedics in Salt Lake City, Ut.  He attended medical school at University of Alabama, Birmingham and served his Residency program at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine (UTCOM) in Chattanooga at Erlanger. 

Dr. Lund, a hand specialist, received his Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship Training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, attended medical school and served his Residency at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, La. 

Dr. Lowry attended medical school at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Oh., served his internship at Horizon Hospital System in Farrell, Pa., and his Residency at the University of Tennessee at Siskin Hospital and Erlanger.  He is an interventional physiatrist, specializing in non-operative management of spine problems, including spinal injections. 

Also specializing in orthopedic sports medicine injuries is Dr. Jeremy Bruce, who completed Fellowship Training at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Fl. under the direction of Dr. James Andrews.  He attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine in Augusta and served his Residency at UTCOM, in Chattanooga at Erlanger.

“One of our key initiatives has been to dramatically expand Erlanger’s academic orthopedic services and surgical suites in order to better serve this community and region,” said Kevin M. Spiegel, FACHE, Erlanger president and CEO.  “The addition of these four highly-respected specialists to Erlanger’s team will enable us to provide an even wider range of orthopedic services and enhance our academic enterprise, for both children and adults.”

The four specialists will continue to see patients at their current office locations and will operate primarily at Erlanger East Hospital.  They will be joining 14 other orthopedic specialists affiliated with Erlanger, including: Drs.  Paul Apyan, Richard Alvarez, Channappa Chandra, Brandon Cincere, Jad Dorizas, Jesse Doty,  Mark Freeman, Warren Gardner,  Dale Ingram, Dirk Kiner, and Peter Nowotarski . Practicing on the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger orthopedic team are pediatric orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Wendell Moses, Dr. Julie Zielinski and non-operative orthopedic specialist, Dr. Merritt Adams.
