Harold Bates
A man who allegedly threw knives at two women and fought with police officers was arrested on Thursday and charged with six counts of aggravated assault.
Officers responded to the 1300 block of Sequoyah Access Road and were advised that the suspect, Harold Bates, 40, was a mental health consumer and had a history of violence toward law enforcement.
The two female victims said that Bates was inside the home and had been destroying it for some time, throwing multiple items, including knives, around the house at them.
When officers attempted to make contact with Bates, he allegedly came to the door with a bladed weapon and refused commands to drop it.
Officers stated that he made aggressive moves toward the officers, at which point a taser was used to try and subdue him. The taser was ineffective and Bates retreated back into the home.
Officers then followed him inside at which point he began to punch and kick several of them.
Bates was eventually subdued and was transported by EMS to Memorial Hixson hospital for treatment before being processed at the Hamilton County jail.
