The Urban League Of Greater Chattanooga Is Awarded $500,000 Grant

The National Urban League awarded funding to seven Urban League affiliates nationwide aimed at empowering and providing workforce development services to young adults between the ages of 18-24 who have criminal records. The Urban League of Greater Chattanooga Area is one of the seven affiliates to be awarded a 3-year Urban Youth Empowerment Program grant in the amount of $528,624.   

The funding will be used to provide training to help 100 young adults in Chattanooga gain skills and industry certifications to not only become employable, but also to be successful in the workplace. Certifications in which program participants will have an opportunity to earn credentials will include, but not be limited to Commercial Drivers License, Welding, Machinist, Green Construction, Occupational Training, Certified Nursing Assistant, etc. In addition to having an opportunity to earn certifications, participants will also receive case management, mentoring, leadership, and expungement services. 

“We are extremely grateful to be awarded this funding to invest and improve the lives of 100 young adults residing in Chattanooga,” said Warren Logan, president & CEO of the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga. “This $500,000 grant will in many ways provide new beginnings on more meaningful pathways for young adults who faced challenges in the past.  The needed training and industry credentials will guarantee a skill set for a successful career in a meaningful occupation.   Matching funds will be sought to enhance the potential.” 

Funding was also awarded to Urban League Affiliates located in Atlanta, Charlotte, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Peoria, Il., and Springfield, Il.
