State Board Releases 2015 Teacher Training Program Report Card

  • Tuesday, December 1, 2015
The State Board of Education released The 2015 Report Card Tuesday on the Effectiveness of Teacher Training Programs in Tennessee.

In recent years, the Tennessee Higher Education Commission facilitated the data collection, design, and publication of the report card. Beginning this year, the State Board of Education, in partnership with the Department of Education, will take on the responsibility of issuing the report card.

“We believe the report serves an important function in providing stakeholders and the public with valuable information and insight into teacher training programs,” said Dr.
Sara Heyburn, executive director for the State Board. “Moving forward, we will seek input from stakeholders on the design and data included in future reports.”

In 2007, the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation requiring an annual, public report on the effectiveness of teacher preparation programs. Under the law, the report must include data on the performance of each program’s completers in the following areas: placement and retention rates, Praxis II pass rates, and teacher effect data based on the Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System.

The 2015 report contains a statewide profile as well as profiles for each teacher preparation provider.

According to officials, strong teacher preparation is a key part of Tennessee’s efforts to ensure an effective teacher in every classroom across the state.
